Stainless Steel Eye Bolts
Essential Hanging Hardware
Stainless steel eye bolts consist of a loop at the end of a threaded shaft. They're intended to be used in conjunction with hooks (top hooks or S hooks work well) for the purposes of hanging items from the ceiling, rafters, or horizontal rails. Chain may be used as an extension between the two pieces of hardware.
Eye bolts are often installed by manufacturers on items that need to be hanged, or they may need to be installed by the purchaser. For example, large and/or heavy house numbers on a landscape-orientation sign might need to be hanged from a height in order to receive appropriate support; the homeowner might be responsible for installing the eye bolts from which the house numbers will hang.
Installation of House Numbers
House number signs larger than a standard sheet of paper should not be mounted on an exterior wall or door, but instead placed on one or two yard stakes. Ask your manufacturer for their recommended installation directions for your particular order. House numbers of this size could also be hanged, indoors or out, for a pleasant effect.
House number plaques that are approximately the size of your forearm or larger should be hanged. They can be placed on yard stakes, but house numbers of that magnitude will be an impressive sight indeed when hanged from the rafters just inside the door, or suspended over your garage opening or front door.
Picking Appropriate House Numbers
Choosing appropriately sized house numbers for your home is a tricky business. It's understandable to think "bigger is better", but if your living space is small (such as a condominium, apartment, or one in a row of townhouses) you'd be better off with a small, distinctive set of house numbers than a large one. Most manufacturers of house numbers will not allow returns unless the product is defective in some way. It's good to keep this in mind while designing your house numbers, as well.
Try to use colors already apparent in your home's exterior. For example, if your home has navy blue siding, a set of house numbers in navy blue and gold would look quite nice on the door. Try to either go for similar coloring, or high contrast; if your home is white, black house numbers with white lettering will draw attention and admiration.
If you're getting small house numbers in your home sign, it's probably best to avoid graphics entirely. A small accent graphic might be all right, but see if there's a way you can get a visual representation of how the house numbers will look before you decide to place an order. Very large house numbers should not be cluttered with graphics either, as it impedes visibility. Medium-sized house numbers, such as are appropriate for a small home, might be able to use two or three graphics without giving them an overly complicated appearance.
Be mindful of the size and estimated weight of the house numbers you choose. Stock up on hardware beforehand, and always ask the manufacturer for their recommendations when it comes to installing and caring for your new house numbers.
