Double Sided Hanging Systems

Double Sided Signs: Double Your Exposure

Double sided signs are most commonly associated with businesses, but there is also a type of double sided home sign. A double sided home sign will require a double sided hanging system, which actually sounds more complex than it is.

When it comes to hanging signs, there are two kinds of home sign: single sided and double sided. The orientation of the home sign plays a part as well, determining what size and type of hardware is needed to hang the home sign. For example, a landscape-oriented double sided home sign is one in which the graphic or letterin is intended to be viewed horizontally, and can be seen from either side. A home sign of this type would be hanged using a double sided hanging system.

Different Kinds of Hanging System

In its most basic sense, a double sided hanging system simply means that the eye bolts necessary to suspend the home sign from a wall bracket or lawn post will be pre-installed on the home sign. This gives the home sign a much more professional appearance, as it can be difficult for the layman to properly line up and drive eye bolts on a level.

A single sided hanging system is one intended strictly for single sided signs, and may refer to something as simple as a house number sign with a frame bracket suspended from a nail head, or as sturdy and secure as a home sign on an interlocking system of carefully installed rails. Which system you choose to use for your home sign depends on your resources and your abilities.

Other Kinds of Double Sided Sign Systems

There are many different methods available for hanging a double-sided house sign. In addition to using a post or wall bracket, a double-sided home sign might come with its own bracket installed, converting it into an old-fashioned "flange sign". A flange sign is a type of metal sign with an angled lip attached, allowing it to be mounted outdoors and visible from both sides. These types of signs went out of fashion during the 1960s in America, but many remain in collectors' homes as memorabilia from the first half of the 20th century. Some manufacturers have copied the style and now sell a type of flanged home sign for residences.

Another option, especially popular with very large double-sided signs or those that display different messages on either side, is to suspend the home sign from the rafters using eye bolts and chain. For example, a small hometown pub might hoist their home sign above patrons' heads, so their eyes are drawn upwards, perhaps making the place look bigger and better.

Whatever size or type of home sign you choose, you will need to use a hanging system of some sort to put your house number plaque on display. Give some thought to this while designing your home sign. Consider and estimate the weight and size of the home sign you plan on purchasing; then, before it arrives, you may have already found the perfect hanging system and position for your new sign.
